![]() You say you have a timer for controlling a lamp > that sounds like a plug-in timer and not an in-wall timer. You posted under Intermatic ST01C battery-operated in-wall timer. Try wiring same timer at neighbor's house and see if it works there. If you try multiple timers, and each timer has same problem, then line interference or bad wiring is suspect, or you are buying from somebody who has a bad batch of timers. If the above items are all correct, then defective timer is suspect. To begin programming, reset timer by pushing in the round reset button with toothpick or paper clip. If lights do not turn on-off with manual override, the open link above for wiring instructions. This will indicate if your timer is wired correctly. Press manual override button and see if lights turn on-off. Timer has to be installed correctly with each wire correctly connected. So wiring in home has to be correct before timer will operate as expected. Timers are affected by line interference and polarity issues. Some stop working within 1 year, and some last quite a while. ![]() I test timers and 3-5% arrive defective, and they never work. Woods 59018 single-pole 7-day 7-program timer, color white: If everything checks out, I guess timer is defective. Test the Hot black wire to white wires in box. Test black wires to bare ground > when tester lights up, that is the Hot wire. You should have two black wires that were originally connected to switch Use ordinary tester (you can tape tester leads to wood sticks) Separate wires in box so they don't touch Red must connect to Load (light, fan, motor etc) White goes to Neutral white wire (neutral is usually 2 or 3 white wires twisted together and shoved to back of box)īlack must connect to Hot from circuit breaker Seems unlikely you could program timer unless timer is wired correctly. ![]() Woods 59018 manual does not show troubleshooting steps except 'check wiring switch Red and Black leads and/or reset programming' SOURCE: Woods In-wall Timer Heavy Duty, Model #59018 - Iġ) Programming steps say 'press clock key to return to current time and day'Ģ) Use mode button and change between AUTO & RND > try manual override in each modeģ) Does timer turn lights on-and-off with program, or do they blink too?ĥ) Try timer on light in different room, on different circuit breaker
